William was the youngest of four boys born to Washington Drake and Temperance "Shorey" Drake in Albion, ME. In his early 1900's he moved to New York and open up a mercantile with a cousin of his future wife, Margaret Josephine Reade of Woburn, MA. He and Margaret were married in June of 1911 and they had two children, Margaret 1912 and William Jr. 1923. Around 1925 he moved his family via ship through the Panama Canal to Santa Monica, CA where he lived until his passing in October 1951 due to colon cancer.
