Jordan was the son of William Nethercutt. He entered service in the War of 1812 alias Jordan Black, Private in Captain Watson's Troop of Cavalry, attached to Major Woolford's Squadron Cavalry, Virginia Militia; served August 30, 1814, to November 15, 1814. Jordan lies in an unmarked grave, and the location of his grave in the cemetery has been lost.
