Helen B. Riggs, 90, of Lewiston, passed away at Nehalem Valley Care Center in Wheeler, Ore., on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011. Helen was born in Priest River, Idaho, on Sept. 15, 1920, to Frank and Allie Belle DeBacker.
She married John Slette in 1938. Helen had three children, Frank, Robert, and Janice. John preceded her in death in 1969.
Helen married Willis Riggs in November 1978. He was one of the owners of Imperial Bowl in Lewiston. They enjoyed many years together. Helen always said that Willis waited on her and treated her like a real lady. Willis passed away in 1990.
They enjoyed fishing in Canada and golfing at Lewiston Golf and Country Club. She had three holes-in-one in 50 years. Helen was also known as one of the best bowlers in Lewiston, Clarkston, and Sandpoint, Idaho. Her highest game was a 289 and she bowled many 600 series through the years.
Helen retired as the office manager for Petrolane Gas Company in 1985, after more than 30 years of service.
In addition to John and Willis, she was preceded in death by her mother, father, five brothers, a sister, and her daughter.
Helen chose to be cremated. Arrangements are with Luce-Caldwell Funeral Home of Astoria, Ore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Elks Rehabilitation Center, Moose Haven, or a charity of the donor's choice.
