John W. Adams, 72, of Kendallville died at 10:13 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He had been in failing health for two weeks.

Mr. Adams graduated from Angola High School in 1955, and from Outboard Marine Corporation Service School in Waukegan, Illinois in 1957. He worked as an outboard motor mechanic at Sylvan Lake Marine in Rome City from 1966 until 1969, then again from 1971 to 1978. He was employed by Armstrong's Marina in Coolidge, Arizona from 1978 until 1984 and ran a freelance photography studio with his wife during that period. He returned to Indiana in 1985, and was employed by Clark's Landing Marina in Hamilton until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed photography, model railroading, classic cars and vintage aircraft.

He was born August 4, 1936, in Kendallville to Wallace and Jean (Strater) Adams. His father preceded him in death in 1971 and his mother in 1995. On June 15, 1958, in Angola, he married Shirley Henley. She preceded him in death July 11, 1999.

He is survived by a lady friend, Esther Harp of Kendallville; a son, John W. Adams, Jr. of Kendallville; a former daughter-in-law, Nancy Adams of Ligonier; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sarah Adams of Kendallville; two grandchildren, Jennifer G. Adams of Ligonier and John W. Adams, III of Ligonier; a step granddaughter, Jessica Bates of Kendallville; and three great grandsons, Corey Hernandez, Juan Hernandez and Jorge Moran, all of Ligonier.

There will be no services or calling.

Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. In lieu of flowers preferred memorials are to Trinity Church United Methodist, Corner of State and Rush Streets, Kendallville.
