MANILA, Utah—Funeral services for Merlin F. Schofield were at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 at the Manila LDS Ward Chapel in Manila, Utah, under the direction of Glen Tinker. Interment was in the Manila Cemetery.
Schofield, 92, of Manila, died at 5:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County after a short illness.
He was born July 22, 1907 in Manila, Utah, the son of Frank and Mary Warby Schofield. He married Lena M. Searle on Sept. 17, 1926 in Linwood, Utah. She preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1991 in Rock Springs.
He attended schools in Manila and had been a rancher all of his life. He also was employed for the U.S. Forest Service in Manila as a campground caretaker. His interests were horses, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Joyce Riggs, of Elko, Nev., Florence (Dick) Christensen, of Manila, and Dixie Lou Moser, of Fort Bridger; three sons, Don M. (Annette) Schofield, of McKinnon, Wendell F. (Agnes) Schofield, of Campbellsburg, Ind., and Leslie J. (Cindy) Schofield, of Manila; 32 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena; two sons, John Earl and Dencil Schofield; two brothers, Leo and Ed Schofield; two half-brothers, Richard and Barney; one sister, Lovena; and five grandchildren, Donell, Sonya, Casey, Kelly and Cody.
