Agnes Barbara Fischer Lesage was born May 21, 1914, the third child of John and Mary (Vetter) Fischer. She graduated from Rhame High School in 1932. In 1939 she moved to Sandpoint, Idaho where she married Howard Deshon. They owned and operated a small dairy farm. After his death in 1961, Agnes sold the farm and moved into Sandpoint where she worked in a motel and did babysitting. In 1972, she married Perry Welch. After his death in 1980, Agnes married George Lesage who passed away in 1985. In 2007, at the age of 93, she left her very dear friends in Sandpoint and moved back to Bowman, North Dakota to be closer to her family. Agnes was an avid quilter, making nearly 500 quilts for family and friends. After the big quilts became too much for her, she made single quilts, lap quilts, placemats and then round tuits (pot holders) with this little verse attached: "How many times have you said ‘I'll do it when I get around to it.' Well, here's your chance, now you can do it. Now at last, you've got a round tuit." Agnes had a witty sense of humor and was always ready to hear or tell a joke or to clip a cartoon which she included in the many letters she wrote to her friends to the very end of her life. She had a very giving spirit, and she greatly enjoyed music and poetry. She was very active in her church, a member of the altar guild, a volunteer at the senior center thrift store, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and growing flowers in her back yard. She will always be remembered for the thousands of donuts she made with others. She loved history, nature, animals, and the simple things in life. She was blessed with an awesome memory to the end. Her faith, family, and friends were always most important in her 100 years of life. Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Leonard, Francis, Richard, and Raymond Fischer and her sisters: Martha Murray and Marjorie Orcutt. She is survived by two sisters in law: Doris Fischer and Jo Fischer and numerous nieces and nephews.
