John Rodewald
John Rodewald, former Minonk resident, died Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 at his home at Toluca, after being sick several weeks. In February he submitted to an operation for appendicitis at St. Mary's hospital in Streator and for a time he was in good health, but lately he failed.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Christian church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Carl Hafferman officiating. Burial will be at the Toluca cemetery.
Mr. Rodewald was born in Ostfriesland, Germany, on April 18, 1868, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1884, he came to America and in 1892 he was married at Washburn to Frances Sunken. Seven children came to the home, of whom one died in infancy and one son, Bert, died in service as a soldier in the World war. Siebelt died in 1904 at the age of five. With the wife the following children survive: John, Folkert and William of Toluca, and Mrs. Margaret Wier of Henry. There are eight grandchildren. There also survive two sisters in Germany and one brother who lives in Minneapolis, Minn.
The family lived in Linn township on a farm for a time but later Mr. Rodewald worked as section hand, finally becoming foreman. Sixteen years ago he moved from Minonk to Toluca where he has since lived. At both places he had many friends.
