She attended Machiasport and Machias schools. She was employed for Mildred Heighton's Maternity Home for 10 years. She also worked at Marshall Manor in Machias for 30 years. Shirley was a member of the Maine State Grange for 70 years, as well as the Eastern Star for 60 years. She was also a member of the Bucks Harbor and Larrabee Baptist Church for many years. Shirley enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her children, Caroline Harmon and husband, Charlie, of Marshfield, Bruce Coffin and wife, Blanche, of East Machias, Douglas Coffin and wife, Betty, of Bucks Harbor, David Coffin and wife, Judith, of Bucks Harbor; 10 grandchildren, Randy, Scott, Tammy, Carlene, Carolyn, Nancy, Clayton Jr., Dale, Ann, and Frankie; sisters, Cora L. Quimby and Amy Noreen Ingalls, both of Machias; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her first husband, Frank P. Coffin, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Clayton L. Coffin Sr.; and sisters, Helen, Grace, Lindia, and Lena.
Visiting hours will take place 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005 at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Hill Side Cemetery in Bucks Harbor with the Rev. Bill Holmes, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Larrabee Baptist Church, care of Mrs. Gerald Wood, 972 Port Road, Machiasport, ME 04655.
