Edward Thomas Burke, 86, of Cross Lanes passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston, WV.
Born February 29, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Thomas and Christina Lyons Burke. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Kathleen, John, Joseph and Thomas.
Edward was retired from Union Carbide Corp. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro where he was active with the church food pantry.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Kennedy Burke; his children, Timothy (Emily) of Montrose, NY, Thomas (Diane) of Hurricane, Kevin (Annmarie) of Mahopac, NY, Michael of Indianapolis, IN, Sean (Christy) of St. Albans, Maura of Nitro, Edward (Lydia) of Kearneysville; his sister, Christina Mahon of Long Island, NY; 11 grandchildren and his beloved canine companion, Oscar.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2219 22nd Street, Nitro with Father Joe Tuscan officiating. Burial followed in Tyler Moutain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane where there was a Christian Prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to Dr. Ashish Sheth, his staff, as well as those at Hubbard Hospice House West for the care and compassion shown to Edward.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Hubbard Hospice House- West, 4605-A MacCorkle Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25309.
