The Rev. Carl R. Cox, 78, of 2825 Hickory Tree Road died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. A lifelong resident of the Bluff City area, he was a son of the late Joseph Melvin Sr. and Nellie Smith Cox. He was a minister for 52 years, pastoring Faith Chapel for 32 years. Most recently, he was attending Rock Hold United Methodist Church. He was a former employee of Volunteer Textiles with 25 years of service, was chairman of Vanover and Crumley Cemetery Associations and attended Graham Bible College and Central Wesleyan College of South Carolina. Mr. Cox was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Edna Morrell Cox; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Wanda) Robinson of Bluff City and Mrs. Tom (Cheryl) Ellis of Bristol TN; three sons, Ted E. Cox of Bristol Virginia, Gerald R. Cox of Lugoff, SC, and Tim L. Cox of Piney Flats; a sister, Mrs. George (Rosetta) Greene of Bluff City; six brothers John Cox, Joe Cox Jr., Herbert Cox and Freeman Cox, all of Bluff City, and Adron Cox and Fred Cox, both of Bristol TN; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Randy Hensley and Kelly Gene Harless will officiate. Committal services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in Crumley Cemetery. Niles Kitzmiller and Bill Hinkle will officiate. Among survivors are daughters-in-law Vickie Humphries Cox and Kathy Keith Cox; grandchildren Terry, Jerry and Rex Robinson, Trevor, Jarod and Tyler Cox, Jessica and T.J. Ellis and Erica D., Megan N. and Brook E. Cox; and granddaughter-in-law April Blevins Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Saturday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel.
