Mom was born in Ludlow, Mo. to John and Thelma Fryer. Her father, who's career spanned 42 years, took her and her mother to many different locations to live. She called herself a "Navy" brat. Upon being stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, she met and married a Naval Officer., Michael John Carvan. This short marriage brought her two sons, Michael John Carvan Jr., and Douglas Ray Carvan. Eventually Mom settled in Kansas City, Mo., where she could find work. She graduated from Beauty School and became a hairdresser working for two well-known beauty shops, Pierre's and Salon Klaus on the Plaza.
Mom met and married a well-known and highly revered attorney, George Faso. They married in 1951, and together raised the boys. They enjoyed 43 years together until his death on May 30, 1994. They traveled the world together; cruises, island paradise, Europe and beyond. When her son Michael's children came along, as soon as they were old enough, they started taking trips with them. As the children grew, she spent every minute she could with them, she said she had 4 cribs at one time in her home. She found a way to get to almost every activity and sports event that she could. She loved keeping them on weekends and took them on all kind of adventures. She hosted most of their birthday parties. She couldn't get enough of them.
In 1985, when Douglas remarried, he and his wife Rosemary gave her another grandchild to dote upon, dote upon she did. When all 5 grandchildren were grown and married, she was saddened, but low and behold, the great grandchildren arrived, and the cycle of doting began again. Once again attending everything she could, just less than 2 weeks before her passing, she was at a game. Aside from grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mom was an avid bridge player, when she was younger, and then returning to it again after her husband passed.
She entertained her husband's friends and associates, judges, and clients; with beautiful parties and gatherings. Mom was the hostess with the mostess. She was a tough act to follow, ask anyone.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter-in-law Sheila Carvan, sister-in-laws Bessie, Maggie, Jean, Lena, and Josephine, and many of her dearest friends.
She is survived by her sons Michael John Carvan Jr. and Douglas R. Carvan (Rosemary). Five grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Grosvenor, Michael John Carvan III (Moreen), Mathew Robert Carvan, Paul David Carvan (Anne), and Nicholas Michael Carvan (Nineveh); and 11 great grandchildren.
Mom was deeply loved, respected, and admired by all who knew her. Our family has suffered a great loss, but the memories of all she was to us will last a lifetime. She passed in peace, with no regrets, she lived a beautiful active life. She was a devout Catholic.
Mother, Mom, Nonna, NaNa, Thank you for all you've done and for all you've been to us all.
Pallbearers; Nick Carvan, Michael Carvan III, Matthew Carvan, Paul Carvan, Michael John Carvan IV, Brandon Carvan, George Grosvenor, and Tyler Carvan.
We'd like to acknowledge Overland Park Regional for her care and for KC Hospice for making the crossing easier.
In lieu of flowers, Mom would have liked donations in her name be given to anyone of the following charities: Harvesters, Salvation Army, Wounded Warriors Project, Della Lamb, City Union Mission, VFW and the Housing form Vets Programs.
