GARNER - Sharon L. Yohn Van Oort Larson, 78, of Des Moines, formerly of Garner died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines after a long battle with a rare progressive brain disorder (PSP).

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 3rd at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Sharon Louise Yohn Van Oort Larson, the daughter of Ronald and Lucille (Ziesmer) Yohn, was born January 21, 1936 in Garner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Sharon graduated from Garner High School in 1954. She lived in Garner where she raised her children and sold Avon products. She later was a life insurance agent for AAL before pursuing a career in real estate until her retirement. She had lived in Garner, Crystal Lake and Phoenix, AZ before moving in 2012 to Des Moines to be near her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading and taking care of her dogs and cats.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake prior to moving to Des Moines and belonged to the Iowa Realtors Association.

Sharon is survived by her children, Randy Van Oort of Des Moines, Casey Van Oort of Colfax, Shelly (Jeff) Wangsness of Ankeny and Mark (Ruth) Van Oort of Indianola; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Van Oort of Des Moines; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Carole (Dr. Philip) Lonning of Humboldt; a brother, Bill (Rosemary) Yohn of Clear Lake; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Cornie, Apr. 9, 1990; and son, Jerry, May 26, 2003.
