MRS. ANN C. MERRITT
Mrs. Ann C. Merritt passed away Wednesday morning, May 31st at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maud Burt at Albany, Vt., where she had made her home for the past eight years. Bronchitis and a very serious heart trouble was the cause of her death. Ann C. Douglas was born in Clarenceville, P.Q., Sept. 14th, 1848. In 1878 she married Hoel Beard of Potton. P. Q. Four children were born to them, Eunice J. Hoel C., Mary A. and Henrietta Maud. Mr. Beard died in 1889 leaving her the care of the four children whom she faithfully brought up to manhood and womanhood. Her second husband was J. H. Merritt who died in 1906. Mrs. Merritt was a true Christian living her religion everyday. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church, Newport and although she was not able to attend only occasionally she was faithful in its doctrine. She leaves to mourn her loss a son, two daughters, and three brothers, the oldest daughter Eunice (Mrs. Ernest Beard) having died in 1916.
The funeral was held at Albany Friday at 10:30 a. m. Rev. Percy Newton, officiating. Interment took place in the Brown cemetery at Leadville, P. Q. Rev. A. P. Banks read the Episcopal, burial service at the grave. Those from out of town to attend the funeral were James Douglas of Springfield, Mass., Collins Douglas of Richford, Vt., Wm. Douglas of Mansonville, P. Q., Mrs. Mary Douglas and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cummings of Coventry, Mr. and Mrs. Hoel Beard and W. H. Donaldson and family of Newport. The bearers were Hoel Beard, Ernest Beard, W.H. Donaldson and J. R. Cummings. The beautiful flowers were a silent token of the love and esteem in which she was held. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Maud Burt in the loss of her mother who has stood by her so faithfully with her kind help and advice.
