Twin son of Henry Bascom Clutter & Harriett Bell born on 6 June 1846. (Twin brother, William E. Clutter). William E. Clutter enlisted during the Civil War on Aug. 20, 1864. Henry Clutter, who was already in the service, died of smallpox, and was buried Sept 1, 1864, in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, VT. James W. Clutter was a prisoner of war, and nearly starved to death. He married Mahala Anna Denham on 22 Aug 1867 in Clermont County, Ohio. Mahala died 12 march 1896. He later became the husband of Lida Clutter in 1897.

NOTE: This was musical family thru many generations. Most played not one, but several instruments.
