Elwood "Woody" J. Hannon, 80, of Lake Suzy, Florida passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 surrounded by family at Tidewell Hospice Inc. in Port Charlotte, FL.

Woody was born August 25, 1933 in Winsted, CT and moved to Lake Suzy 14 years ago from Newington, CT.

He was a US Army veteran who served in the Korean War.

He was also the Captain of the West Hartford Fire Department for 30 years. After moving to Florida with his family, Woody started working at Publix for many years where he met many friends and coworkers.

He loved to fish especially going on his yearly fishing trips to Canada with his son and friends from the PA Club. He was very active coaching his children's numerous sports teams. Woody was a semi Professional Soccer player. He enjoyed many summers at their beach house in Old Saybrook, CT.

Woody was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, neighbor and friend to all and will forever be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Charlene (Dee) Hannon; 3 daughters, Kimberly (Chris) Glenney of North Port, FL, Stacey Hannon of Rocky Hill, CT and Tamara (Evan) Bouchard of North Port, FL; his son, Michael (Jennifer) Hannon of Milford, NH; a sister, Eileen (Ron) Bouchard of Farmington, CT; 5 grandchildren, Michael Hurley, Travis Glenney, Courtney Neill, Matthew and Sean Hannon and 1 great-granddaughter, Madelena Hurley and many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Catherine (Nash) Hannon, 3 brothers, Harold, Larry and Bobby Hannon and his sister, Delores Battalino.

A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM, Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.

A Memorial Mass and Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date in Newington, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Port Charlotte Rehabilitation Center, 25325 Rampart Blvd. Port Charlotte, FL 33983 or Tidewell Hospice Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238.
