Adelaide Shuford was a daughter of Dr. Robert C. Lindsay and Emily P. Doak. She married Adolphus Lafayette Shuford, a prominent citizen of Hickory, NC. Their home was Maple Grove, once a farm complete with Jersey cows; now preserved as a museum and open to the public. It houses the headquarters of the Hickory Landmarks Society.

Adelaide and Adolphus Shuford had twelve children, five who died in infancy. She and her husband attended Corinth Reformed church, where they were both active and respected members. She died of a lingering illness some fifteen years after her husband.
