DAVENPORT - Gary W. Strawhacker, 65, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.

Gary was born Dec. 19, 1943, in New Boston, Ill., the son of Clifford R. and Alwelda Lorraine (Fisher) Strawhacker. He was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, and was a member of the schools wrestling team. He was united in marriage to Gloria Simpson on March 7, 1964, in Kahoka, Mo.

He worked at the John Deere Company, in East Moline, for thirty-five years as a manager of the parts department.

He was a member of the old First Assembly of God Tabernacle, in Bettendorf.

Gary enjoyed going to the Village Inn for coffee, watching the Weather Channel, fishing, mushroom hunting and riding motorcycles. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Gloria; his daughters, Deborah (Daryl) Gonzales, Davenport, Jodi Strawhacker, Davenport, and Melissa (Sherman) Williams, Davenport; his son, Jeffrey (Amberly) Strawhacker, Davenport; his 15 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ronald (Janet) Strawhacker, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Richard Dick Strawhacker, Bettendorf, Everett (Debbie) Strawhacker, Davenport, and Terry Strawhacker, Bettendorf; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kevin Strawhacker and his daughter, Michelle Baez.
