My paternal ggf John Amis came from Granville co., NC to TN in the year 1818 or 1819. His wife was Miss Mary Knight. They settled in Fountain Creek abt 2 mi SW of Culleoka, TN, where they lived, died and are buried. The Amis Family were French Hugenots and came to America soon after the edict of Nantes was promulgated. My maternal gf Col. James Erwin Thomas, came to TN with his father and mother from VA. His people on both sides were Scotch- Irish, his mother having the Irish brogue. He was sheriff of Maury co. (TN), represented his district in the State senate and was a Colonel in the Mexican War.
