JOSEPH ARLE

Joseph Arle, County Board Official, Dies
Joseph Arle, 68, Two Rivers, vice chairman of the County Board and a member of the board 14 years, died this morning at the Two Rivers municipal hospital.

He has been a patient there three weeks. Mr. Arle represented the Seventh ward, Two Rivers, on the board and his name was to have appeared on the ballot this spring. He was chairman of the Public Building & Improvement committee, one of the most important on the board. He also served on the Fair board.

Funeral Monday

Arle, retired Two Rivers business man, has been in poor health since early in the year and was unable to attend the recent session of the board. While he was in the hospital his friends circulated and filled his nomination papers, and he was to be unopposed for supervisor this spring.

As the time for filling nomination papers for the April 4 election is past, Two Rivers officials faced a situation which resulted in the matter being referred to City Atty, Fred Dicke for a ruling. It is probable that the ultimate winner of the supervisor job in the Seventh ward there will be a written-in candidate.

Funeral services for Mr. Arle will be held Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home and at 9 a.m. from St. Mark's Catholic church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Peter Nilles will officiate and interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery.

Joseph Arle was born in Washington, D.C. March 9, 1871 and moved to Wisconsin with his parents when a boy. The family lived in the vicinity of Sturgeon Bay for the most part of his youth. On Dec. 29, 1896, he married Miss Magdalena Roeser at Sister Bay. For the following eight years Arle was in the U.S. coast guard service at Sturgeon Bay Canal. He left the coast guard service and moved to Sheboygan where he entered the tire business and remained there for ten years until he came to Two Rivers in 1919.

Had Tire Shop

In that city Arle opened a tire shop on Washington street. Fifteen years ago he was an unsuccessful candidate for sheriff and the following year he as elected to the county board from his ward on the southside. He had continued to serve the ward. For the past two years he was a member of the Two Rivers board of review.

Survivors are the widow; three sons, Clayton of Minneapolis, George and Lloyd of Two Rivers; two daughters, Mrs. M. B. Allan of Waterbury, Connecticut and Mrs. Alice Hammond, of Chicago; one brother, William of Sturgeon Bay; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian McDonald of Sturgeon Bay, Mrs. Otto Urban of Chicago, Mrs. Herman Bourgeouis of Sturgeon Bay and Mrs. G. M. Smith of Pasadena, Cal.; and nine grandchildren.

The body will remain at the Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home.
