Marion Weekly Sentinel Thursday Oct. 20, 1921
Robert Smyth, a former Marion resident, died Sunday evening in a Dubuque hospital where he had been for more than a years, following a break down in health, suffered when he lived here. Mr. Smyth was the son of pioneer residents of Marion, Judge and Mrs. William Smyth, and had spent practically his whole life here, the city of his birth. He was sixty-six years old last February. During the later years of his life he was agent for insurance. His wife passed away many years ago, but their son Frank of Detroit, survives, also two brothers, Jay Smyth of Minneapolis, and David, of Wichita, Kas. The body was brought to Marion for burial in Oak Shade cemetery at the side of his wife. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Cathcart's chapel the Rev. G.T. Hanna, of the Congregational church officiating. (The rest of the obit. is obscured).
