Richard Roode was the son of Caleb Rude (Jr) and Diantha "Antha" Keeney. He was born in Connecticut in 1788.


By 1800 his family had moved to a farm near the town of Brutus, Cayuga County, NY. While there, Richard was married to Eledicy Smith on Nov. 11, 1810 per the family bible. Reportedly the couple had thirteen children in all (seven boys and six girls), however only ten have been identified by name as of this time.


After his father's death in 1829, Richard decided to uproot his family from Brutus, first landing in Barre, Orleans County, NY sometime in 1830. The family settled in that area for a few years before moving again in June of 1837. According to records, the family initially traveled West to Niagara Falls before heading southwest, following the banks of Lake Erie. They traveled through northern Ohio, making their way to Toledo, before stopping at their final destination in Adrian, Lenawee County, MI.


It is at this point that Richard left the family, the last reported of account of his whereabouts was in Cass County, MI.


Per the family bible, Richard died on Sep. 6, 1838, at the age of 50. The location of Richard's grave is unknown at this time.
