Uncle Frank Skaggs died at the County Infirmary in Columbia Saturday, July 21, 1917 of a general breakdown caused by a severe attack of rheumatism. He was 71 years, one month and 13 days of age. Franklin A. Skaggs was born on a farm in Boone County June 8, 1841. He was married to Permelia A. Williams November 5, 1862. He joined the Christian Church in 1850 under the preaching of Elder John O. White who held a protracted meeting at the home of James Jennings, and was baptised in Silvers Creek near old Pleasant Grove Church. Uncle Frank had lived in Centralia many years and was well and favorably known to most everyone in this section. Since the death of his wife he had broken considerably and a short time ago went to the Confederate Home at Higginsville, to spend his declining days. He left the Home and came back to Centralia for a few days and then went to the County infirmary at Columbia, where he was we!! pleaded until death fame and ended his sufferings. Funeral services were conducted from the Bush Undertaking establishment and at the Christian Church Monday morning, after which the remains wore interred in the city cemetery by the side of his wife. Uncle Frank Skaggs was quite a character and we don't suppose he eve- harmed anyone. He was friendly and was liked by all who knew him and his death is mourned by a wide circle of friends and relatives.
