Virginia Ann Geil died on Sunday, May 25 in Colton at the age of 91.

The daughter of Carl and Nellie Ennis, she was born on May 5, 1923, in Boyd, Oklahoma. Virginia was married to John Geil, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, daughter, niece and nephew, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Virginia grew up in the Panhandle of Oklahoma during the "dust bowl" and worked on the Boeing B-29 bombers during World War II. After the war she married John, who was an analyst for several governmental agencies, and in 1960 they moved to California. Virginia and John developed the first computerized document retrieval system for the Pentagon and worked in support of our national security during the Cold War.

In the late 1970s, Virginia moved to Bloomington, where she retired and opened "Kid's Corner," a family day care where she was affectionately referred to as "Grandma G" by hundreds of kids. Virginia was a founding member of the Gerald Smith School PTA, president of the Bloomington Woman's Club, member of the Bloomington Municipal Advisory Commission, and founder and president of the Bloomington Preservation Foundation and Bloomington Garage Museum. Virginia also served as a founding member of the Bloomington Probation Youth Accountability Board and served as a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Bloomington Citizen Patrol until the time of her death.

Virginia was instrumental in the establishment of a Bloomington CHP/Sheriff's substation in Bloomington and the donation of land for the future building of a new Bloomington Library and Community Center on Cedar Avenue.

She will be missed by many family and friends and will be remembered by all for her enduring contributions to the community she served.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 6 at noon at Ingold Funeral Chapel, 8277 Juniper Avenue in Fontana; call (909)822-8083. A funeral procession and interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery in Bloomington. Everyone is welcome.
