He was born in Gilmer County on August 24, 1922, son of the late John Craig and Lovie (Amos) Craig.
Mr. Craig is survived by three daughters, Alexa L. Hall, Tina L. Craig and Lisa D. Arwood, all of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Karl M. Craig and Larry L. Craig, both of Orlando; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Ava Wine and husband Joseph, and one brother and sister-in-law, Ivan "Junior" Craig and wife Jean.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Cynthia Smarr, Madeline Collins, Evelyn Minney and Freda Fuqua.
A Pearl Harbor survivor, Sgt. Major Craig's military career spanned 22 years of service in the U.S. Army. His actions and leadership in World War II, the Korean War and throughout his military career led him to receive many commendations, including the Silver Star and four Bronze Stars. After retiring from the Armed Forces, he worked for the Department of Defense, Manned Space Flight Support Operations during the Apollo XI mission. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Methodist church.
He and his wife Norma moved to Jackson's Mill, West Virginia, in 1988 and have lived in Casselberry, Fla., since 2002.
Friends and family will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Ave., Weston, on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, from noon until 3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with his nephew, Rev. Vincent Wine, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Weston. Full military honors will be conducted.
