He was born Oct. 18, 1914 in Salt Lake City to David A[sael] Smith and Emily Jenkins Smith. He married Leah Cannon July 19, 1941, later divorced. Married Lucille Burrows Craig, July 21, 1961. Hyrum served a mission in Germany in 1935, and also his country in World War II. He received a BA and a MA from BYU. He worked for FHA for many years, retiring in 1985. He served faithfully in many LDS church callings. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, Salt Lake; children, Hyrum (Helen), NY; Warren, NY; Lilian Olesen (Jorgen), Provo; May Bruschi (Robert), NY; Shirley Montgomery (Ray), Salt Lake; Peggy Cutler (Reo), Salt Lake; Linda Craig, Juarez, Mexico; 45 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Smith, Salt Lake.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 South, where friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment, Holladay Memorial Park.
