"Oscar Welton, son of John and Amanda Bassinger Adams, was born November 14, 1863, near Holt Summit in Callaway county, Missouri, and passed to his reward at Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, August 7, 1945, aged 81 years, 7 months, and 23 days.

As the fourth member of the a family of eight children, he moved with his parents to the rural community near Bigelow, Holt county, Missouri, in the year 1876. Here he attended school and grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Catherine Iden, May 12, 1886. To this union seven children were born, three of whom have preceded him in death. Two daughters, Mary Ethel and Bessie May, were taken away in early childhood, and a son, Carl Wilbur, in young manhood. His wife and companion was taken April 16, 1844.

Four sons survive the deceased. They are Frank D., and Oscar G., of Santa Barbara, Calif., Roy P. of Huntington Park, Calif., and Paul G. of Tabor, Iowa. Besides these there are left to mourn his departure six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, James P. of Ferndale, Wash., together with a number of nephews, nieces, and a host of friends.

The deceased was converted at the early age of thirteen years, but due to environment and lack of leadership did not retain his new-found Christian experience. Some twenty years later, after establishing the family altar, he earnestly sought the Lord and was joyously saved.

Early in his Christian experience he felt the call to witness and as he grew in grace he availed himself of the opportunities to minister in the Divine Word. There developed at this time in his life a lasting fellowship with the founders and workers of the Faith Home at Tabor, Iowa. Here he was ordained as a minister and elder by the Hephzibah Faith Missionary Association in 1916, and he served this organization in varying capacities as committee member, trustee, pastor and vice Chairman.

During the last ten years of his active ministry he was a charter member of the Holt County Holiness Association, serving as president and was at the time of his death president emeritus. He also was allied with similar associations in northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

In addition to fulfilling to the very best of his ability the duties of a husband and father in a Christian home, the deceased endeavored to energize the spiritual life of the community in which he lived. He was tireless in his efforts for the promotion of Bible study and the teaching of the Word, which fact is attested by the temporal and spiritual fruits of his ministry.

It as characteristic of the elder to the fervent in spirit and aggressive indeed; to the enemy of mankind he was a relentless foe; to the hungry and thirsty after righteousness he pleased the merits of the Redeemer; to his host of friends he was understanding and loyal in his relationships; to the immediate members of his family he was a devoted husband and father; to the church he was a faithful "doer of the Word," and to his God he was an humble servant and devout worshipper."
