Gerald H. Fischer of W7021 State Road 67, Plymouth, passed away Sunday evening, June 9, 2002 at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center, where he was a patient for four days, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at Salem United Church of Christ Plymouth. Friends may greet the family from 4 p.m. until the time of service. The Rev. James Hoppert will officiate. Burial will be in the Brillion Community Cemetery.
He was born March 7, 1945 in Green Bay, son of Henry and Mabel (Wagner) Fischer. Jerry graduated from Reedsville High School in 1963 and served in the, U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968. He married Carol Schwalbe on May 16, 1969 at Peace United Church of Christ in Potter.
The couple resided in Plymouth since the time of their marriage. For the past 33 years he worked as a switching technician at GTE/Verizon in Plymouth and the surrounding areas.
He was a long time member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. Jerry enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards with his friends and relatives.
He is survived by his wife: Carol; one son: Todd (special friend, Dawn Meyer) of Glenbeulah; his parents: Henry and Mabel of Brillion; a brother: Doug (special friend, Esther Lorenz) of New Holstein; one sister. Frances Marceille of De Pere (special friend, Jerry Effa of Kaukauna); three sisters-in-law: Edie (Steve) Kleppen of Potter; Karen Straw (special friend, Don Dekker) of St. Ann; Ethel (Russell) Hillmann of Reedsville; three brothers-in-law: Everett Schwalbe Jr. (fiancee, Lorraine Wunrow) of Fond du Lac; Glenn (Janet) Schwalbe of Manitowoc; Dennis (Nancy) Schwalbe of Brillion; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Wieting Funeral Home of Brillion is assisting the family with arrangements. Jerry's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the special people at Matthews Oncology and St. Nicholas Hospice for their kind care and compassion given to him during his illness. Jerry was very much loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
