Carbon Monoxide Kills Denmark Youth, Date
Two Brown County young people died of carbon monoxide poisoning in a parked car in Kewaunee County early Sunday, two weeks after a similar incident in which two Kewaunee teen-agers lost their lives.
Found dead in a parked car at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday were Kay Finnel, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Finnel, Denmark, Rt. 2, and Milton Herbert Johnson Jr., 20, son of the Milton Johnsons, Denmark, Rt. 3.
The car, parked on a gravel pit road in the Town of New Franken in southwestern Kewaunee County, was found by Miss Finnel's father who searched the road after a friend of his daughter told of seeing the car parked there.
Dr. Andrew Lanier, Kewaunee County coroner, said the couple had been dead about four hours when found. The car's engine was still running, Dr. Lanier said. Fumes from the exhaust evidently flooded the car although the left front window had been opened about an inch, the coroner said.
Miss Finnel was a senior at Denmark High School. Johnson, a 1965 graduate of Denmark High School, was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Two Rivers, after spending six months in the Army.
A similar incident on Nov. 22 brought death to Deborah Maedke, 17, and Daryll Hoppe, 19, both of Kewaunee.
