Major League Baseball Player. As a free agent, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox in 1941 and immediately went to serve in the U.S. Military during World War II. After the war, he resumed playing baseball in the minor leagues, appearing in n 139 games, with 8 stolen bases, 77 runs batted in and a .289 batting average. On July 10, 1947, he made his Major League debut as a shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. For nine seasons, he played fro the Boston Red Sox in 1947, St. Louis Browns in 1948, Washington Senators (1949-51), Chicago White Sox (1952-53) and Cleveland Indians (1954-55). He concluded his Major League career with 585 hits, 205 runs scored, 9 stolen bases, 4 home runs, 214 runs batted in, a .252 batting average and a .960 fielding percentage.
