Albion attorney. Rienzi was born in East Abington, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He came to Michigan in 1859. He enlisted in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Volunteers on August 16, 1861, Company A. He served as Commissary Sergeant. He was discharged February 6, 1864 by reason of promotion to 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th Massachusetts Colored Cavalry May 2, 1864, and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on October 15 of the same year. He was discharged December 2, 1865 at Boston. He was involved in three battles: Cedar Mountain, 2nd Bull Run, June 15, 1864; Front of Petersburg; and Battles and skirmishes with White's rebel Cavalry near Leesburg, Virginia.
Following the War Rienzi came to Albion in 1867 where he established a law practice. He also practiced in Detroit, and Jackson, Michigan. He was active in the local Post No. 210 of the Grand Army of the Republic in Albion, and was a commander of the local post.
A mention of Mr. Loud from Darwin Olney Civil War letters, also serving in the First Mich Cav, Co M: "87 In Camp Near Washington D.C. Thursday Morning November 20th, 1862. Qr. Mr Dept 1st, Mich Cavalry...I have been with the mail to Washington Every day Since I commenced carrying it; the Post Master is nearly well, but he will not carry the mail any more. he is Promoted to forage Master & will assume those duties in 2 or 3 days. the old forage master has been appointed Regt Q.M. Sargent, A. Mr Loud of Co A, will now be Post Master for the Regt."
