Carl Edward Salee, 88, of rural Oblong died at 7:30 p.m. on June 9, 2014 in the comfort of his home. He was born October 3, 1925, in Palestine, IL, the son of Everett Salee & Viola Walters Salee. He proudly served his country for 13 years in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant after serving in World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He received many medals over the course of his military service, but was most proud of his Bronze Star. Back stateside, he was well-known as being a horseman, his mule-pulled covered wagon gave rides to many during the Lincoln Days in Palestine and participating in the Palestine Labor Day Parade for many years. He retired from L.S. Heath & Sons as a truck driver after 25 years of employment. He was a lifetime member of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549 and was also a member of the American Legion Post #69.

He married Lois I. Preston on March 19, 1955, and she survives. He is also survived by his grandson & granddaughter-in-law, Robert & Brittany Salee and his sister, Oma Berthold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Altus Salee and Eugene Salee; and his sister, Mary Hoffman.

A time of visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Graveside services will follow at the Kirk Chapel Cemetery, rural Robinson, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine to officiate the service. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
