Vera Yzelle Cothern, 96, of McComb, MS, died on September 24, 2015 at Camellia Estates.
Visitation will be Saturday at Navilla Baptist Church from 11:00 until service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Navilla Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Trent Bilbo will officiate.
Mrs. Cothern was born on March 13, 1919 in Lawrence County, MS. She was the daughter of Earl and Letitia Bartwell Calhoun.
She and her family owned and operated Cothern Grocery and Market for a few years. She loved cooking, working in the yard and visiting with people. She was a longtime member of Navilla Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cothern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duvaw Nelson Cothern; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Fay and James Thurman; two brothers, William Calhoun and Robert Lee Calhoun; two sisters, Doris Sistruck Holmes and Carroll Calhoun.
Survivors include her son, Wendell Calhoun and wife Wanda Jean of McComb; her brother, James Ray Calhoun of Brookhaven; five grandchildren, Pam Triay and husband Bill, Donna Burch and husband John, Valerie Simmons and husband Jackey, Patricia Derouen and husband Len, Danine Howell; 13 great grandchildren, John Phillip Price, James "Jimmy" Price, Nelson Williams, Angela Shannon, Gordon Covington, Will Covington, Wes and Miles Derouen, Hunter, Megan, Sydney, Chase & Meredith Howell; four great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
