He graduated from Topeka Capitol Catholic High School and attended Washburn University. He was a salesman for Huntington Laboratories in Huntington, Ind. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy from Jan. 29, 1942, to Sept. 27, 1945.
He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Topeka, and the Knights of Columbus Council in Emporia. He was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
He married Margaret J. "Peggy" Kempker on Oct. 25, 1941, in Emporia. She died Oct. 15, 1996.
Son, Eric Henry Schneider, died June 18, 1943
Survivors include two sons, Mark Schneider, Seattle, and Dr. Joseph Schneider, Holton; two daughters, Clara George, Shawnee, and Paula White, Osage City; two sisters, Mary Rosebaugh, Topeka, and Catherine Herschel, Portland, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Catholic Church of the Assumption. Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside services at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Schneider will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be held at 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the volunteer program at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, 1700 S.W. 7th, 66606.
