He was born in Willapa, Wash., and was educated at Hopeville School in Buena Vista.
He lived in Independence for many years and was a farmer, logger, contract hop bailer and operated a trucking business. He enjoyed gardening and raising ponies.
He married Wanda in 1925; she died in 1994.
Survivors include his sons, Darrell of Salem, Kent of Ontario; daughter, Muriel Sweringen of Salem; sister, Eunice Hahn of Blodgett; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence. Interment will be at Buena Vista Cemetery.
