Mack Ballew was the fourth of seven children born to Owen Walker Ballew and Martha Jane "Jennie" (Coleman) Ballew. At 25 he married Cora Edna Watson and they raised five children. Mack registered for the WWI draft and listed himself as a farmer in Strong City, Chase County, Kansas. He said he was tall, slender, with gray eyes and brown hair. In the 1940 census they are living in the small town of Elmdale, Chase County. He lists his work week as 60 hours, which was common for most workers on the census.
Note: Blue Sky website lists Mack's death year as 1989 but it was listed elsewhere as 1979.
