U.S. Congressman. Born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Millersville State Teachers College, in 1894, from the law department of Dickinson College, Carlisle, in 1897 and was admitted to the bar in 1897. He practiced law in various cities, plus engaged in newspaper publishing, printing business and banking, (1903-18). He also was a member of the Pennsylvania Publishers’ Association, director of the National Editorial Association, and a member of the Republican State Pennsylvania Committee. In 1932, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Edward M. Beers, serving until 1933. Not candidate for election, he resumed the printing and newspaper publishing business, until his death at age 65.
