Services for John L. Brooks, 74, who died January 4, 1981 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, were held January 6 at the. First United Methodist Church.
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Dr. Leonard Deaver officiated at the services. Music was provided by Darlene Mooberry.
Pallbearers were David Brooks, Benny Brooks, Charles Brooks, Jay K. Brooks, J.C. Brubaker Jr., Kenneth Miller and Richard Beaman.
Mr. Brooks was born October 25, 1906, in the Valley Community, Marion County, Iowa near Knoxville, the son of S.N "Nar" and Hallie Davies Brooks.
Except for the year of 1929, when the family lived in Missouri, he spent his entire lifetime in Knoxville area. He attended the public schools of Knoxville and graduating from Knoxville High School in 1926. He attended Drake University.
He was employed for 15 years as Credit Manager at the Firestone Store in Knoxville, retiring in 1968.
He was married to Maxine Momyer on November 27, 1934 at Lancaster, Missouri.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former member of the sportsman's Club of Knoxville and a member the Marion County Fair Board, serving as treasurer for the board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Sheldon (Fay) Miller and Mrs. J.C. (Hazel) Brubaker Sr., and two in infancy; two brothers, J. Will Brooks and one who died infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine, Route 1, Knoxville; his daughter, Mrs. Paul (Joan) Hazelett of Ainsworth, Iowa; a son, Roger of Cedar Falls, Iowa; six grandchildren and 2 great-granchildren; three sisters, Mary Beeman, Dallas, Iowa, Waunetta Towson, Mexico, Missouri and Mrs. W.W. (Bernice) Macklem of Mesa, Arizona; two brother, J. Ray Brooks and Jess Brooks, both of Knoxville.
A memorial has been established for the Radio Ministry Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville.
