Age 94, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Rockingham County Nursing Home. She was born December 21, 1919 in Manitowoc, WI, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Deskins) Kubichek. On November 26, 1938, she married Kent Shepherd Sr. in Manitowoc, WI and he preceded her in death June 7, 1994. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed westerns. Verla loved to travel, going to yard sales and playing cards and Scrabble.
Survivors include: one daughter, Verla M. (Rick) Petrityl of Canton, MI; two sons, Kent Jr. (Joe Anne) of Kingston, NH and Dwight of Batesville, MS; nineteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Florence Smith and Evelyn Huett; and three brothers, Eugene, Delbert and Merlin Kubichek.
The funeral service will be 11 am Friday, June 20, 2014 at Stark Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to a Baptist Church of the donor's choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-9 pm Thursday.
