ASHTABULA — Richard George Abraham, age 89, of Ashtabula, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 17, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late George and Freda (Humsey) Abraham. After graduating from East Tech High School, he trained for two years at Trenton Tech. Richard served our country in the U.S. Army/ Air Corps., and was honorably discharged on Nov. 26, 1945. He married the love of his life, Shirley Pascoe, on March 30, 1946.
Rick was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Church. He retired from Ashtabula Rubber in 1989 as the plant manager after working with the company for 34 years.
A talented man, he enjoyed woodworking, he built many piec.es of furniture over the years for himself and other family members to enjoy. His craftsmanship was one of a kind, he was known for his saying, "There is the Right way, the Wrong way, and the Rick Abraham way."
Rick loved to sing and play the organ, but he was a much better cook than a musician. He enjoyed painting and bowling, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Abraham is survived by his son, Steve (Camille "Candy") Abraham of Ashtabula; daughter, Valerie Johnston of Vienna; grandchildren, Alexis Abraham, and Jaime and Jason Zupancic; great-grandson, Avery Zupancic; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley in 2010; sisters, Mary Jammal, Selma George, Eva Cajka, and Elizabeth Abraham in childhood; brothers, Frank and Albert Abraham, twin brothers, Eddie and Leo Abraham, and Phillip Abraham in infancy; and his parents.
A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 18th, at Our Lady of Peace, Mother of Sorrow's Worship Site, 1464 W. 6th St., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Father Raymond Thomas presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, where Military Honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #103.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 17th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
