Robert Walls Durham, age 87, of Laurel, Delaware passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center on March 5, 2016. Bob was born at home in Laurel, Delaware, son of the late Walter J. Durham, Sr. and Virginia W. Durham. He graduated from Laurel High School Class of 1946. Following graduation from high school, he attended the University of Delaware in Newark, majoring in Business Administration. In 1949, Bob married Jean Conwell Shipley, his high school sweetheart. They had three children, Barbara Jean, Christine Ann, and Robert Walls Durham, Jr. Bob’s career in business began with Southern States. Afterwards, he entered a partnership in the Charles N. Landon Corporation in Laurel with Charles Landon and Roland Hastings. He later started his own construction and real estate businesses, which included housing and commercial land development. This business continued until his recent retirement.

Bob served as President of the Delmarva Poultry Industry in 1969. He was a member of the Laurel Lions Club and a founding member of the Laurel Redevelopment Corporation, remaining active in the Laurel Redevelopment Corporation until 2014. Bob was a member of the Laurel Centenary Methodist Church of Laurel and later became a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Laurel, Delaware.

His children Barbara Jean Durham, Christine Durham and Robert W Durham, Jr. and several nieces and nephews, survive him. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife, Jean S. Durham and brother, Walter J. Durham, Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware.
