Mrs. Sarah (Westfall) Boyd, aged 89, widow of David A. Boyd, and lifelong resident of Carroll County, died in her home in Mechanicstown Wednesday evening of last week. Death was due to the infirmities of years. Mrs.. Boyd was born in Washington Township, this the home of all her girlhood years. Following marriage the residence was in Fox Township, near Mechanicstown, and in this township the remaining years of life were spent, she and the husband passing nearly 65 years together. Mr. Boyd died four years ago. Mrs. Boyd was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a woman esteemed by all who knew her. She was an interesting conversationalist, took pleasure in telling of reminiscences of pioneer life and days to any who might want to hear, and enjoyed the company and social life of friends, the home one ever open with a welcome to all. She was a great lover of flowers, took pride in their growing and many the bouquets of beautiful blossoms that went from her hand to the sick and others.
Of her family she is survived by two sons and one daughter, Will F. Boyd and Mrs. John Bebout of Mechanicstown, and Homer Boyd of Carrollton. Two brothers, Levi Westfall, of Carrollton, and Thomas Westfall, residing in Kentucky, are living, as are also two half sisters and one half brother, Mrs. J. C. Allen of Lakewood, Mrs. Amanda Hansen of Milan and G. F. Westfall, Fallbrock, California. There are eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren living.
