To avoid being annexed by Detroit, Hamtramck was incorporated and became a city in 1921/1922. Peter C. Jezewski became its first mayor.
He violated Prohibition laws and spent two years in prison.
He liked to go fishing in his spare time. He later opened up a second drug store on E. McNichols.
Peter died of a heart attack on December 1, 1960, while walking home from his drugstore. He collapsed and died later on at St. Francis Hospital in Hamtramck. Funeral was at St. Florian with burial in Mt.Olivet.
