Mrs. Sudie Mae Chavis Brewington, 90, 395 New Bethel Road, Clinton, died Tuesday at her home.

Mrs. Brewington, born in Cumberland County, was the daughter of the late Oliver Camel Chavis and Celeste Maynor Chavis and was the widow of Matthew Festus Brewington. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Russell Brewington; a brother, William Felton Chavis and two sisters, Stacey Louise Jones and Bertha Lee Bell. She was a stenographer at Hamilton Beach. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, a longtime Sunday School teacher, and a member of the choir.

She is survived by five children, Regina Mae B. Shipman, Earl Douglas Brewington, Milley R. Brewington, Lesa B. Locklear and husband David, all of Clinton, Pamela B. Callahan and husband Bruce "Ronnie" of Erwin; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

The family received friends 6-8pm, Saturday, January 18, 2014 at New Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton and other times at the home.

The funeral services were held at 3pm, Sunday, January 19, 2014 at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Cummings and the Rev. Hubbard Lowery and the Rev. Dr. Mike Cummings officiating.

Burial was made in the Church Cemetery.
