Martha after completing her elementary education moved to St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 18 and did domestic care. She married Ernest BOHRER on the 13th of December 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They had no children.
Martha and Ernest farmed near Mannhaven, Mercer County, North Dakota, from 1937 to 1939. In 1940 they lived in St. Louis, (Webster Groves), Missouri where Martha worked as a live-in domestic and Ernest was employed as a hotel maintenance worker. Later, Martha owned and operated a catering service.
They returned to North Dakota in 1942 and, after a while, sold their farm and in 1945 moved to McMinnville, Yamhill County, Oregon.
