James L. Hasty

Funeral services for James L. Hasty, a longtime resident of Dove Creek, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at the Dove Creek First Baptist Church beginning at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at the Dove Creek Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.

James was born the son of Eva Pearl (Goforth) Hasty and Lester Noel Hasty on April 13, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo. He passed away in Cortez on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the age of 64.

The Hasty family moved to McElmo Canyon in 1941 and in 1944 they moved north of Dove Creek to the Burn area. James married Shirley Fury in Fruita, Colo., on Aug. 22, 1961. They had celebrated 38 years of marriage.

James loved to play golf with his lifelong friends, Paul Spitzer and Mike Mulligan. He was also a member of the Cortez Elks Lodge #1789.

He leaves behind his beloved family which includes his wife, Shirley, of Dove Creek; his daughter Lori A. Hasty Haley, and her husband, Don, of Cortez; two grandsons, Ryan J. Haley and Randy L. Haley; his mother, Pearl Hasty, of Dove Creek; two sisters, Donna M. Nielson, and her husband, Bill, of Spring Creek, Nev., and Wilma L. Kerr, and her husband, Cal, of Dove Creek; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His brother, Bobby Hasty, preceded him in death in 1992.

Memorial contributions can be made in James Hasty's name with either the First National Bank of Cortez or the Dove Creek State Bank to benefit Hospice of Montezuma. Ertel Funeral Home will be in charge of the services.
