Bishop L. Scott Allen was a minister of the United Methodist Church. He was elected Bishop in 1967 in the Central Conference of the Church. He served the Gulf Coast Conference. Following the Union of the Methodist Denomination in 1968 he served the Holston Conference and then the Western North Carolina Conference.
Bishop Allen held degrees from Clark College, A.B., Gammon, B.D., Northwestern, M.A. In addition he held honorary degrees from the Bethune-Cookman College, Emory & Henry College, Wiley College and Duke University.
Prior to being elected bishop he served churches in Atlanta, Carrington, Fairburn and Savannah Georgia. In 1957 he became the editor for the Central Conference Christian Advocate. From there he was elected a bishop of the church in 1968.
