Dies Wednesday In Georgetown

"Wilford Woodruff Porter, 87, former Bear Lake resident and early Star Valley farmer, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Georgetown at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milton Smith. He was born on February 22, 1864 in Porterville, Utah, the son of Chauncey W. and Priscilla Strong Porter, early Utah emigrants.

He and Jane Grunig were married in 1892 in Montpelier. Mr. Porter lived in Star Valley from 1897 to 1926, first at Freedom for three years, and following that at Smoot, where he homesteaded a ranch. The family lived in Salt Lake City for one year. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Porter went to Logan, where he worked in the L. D. S. Temple for 20 years. He and Mrs. Mary Patton Hinks were married January 16, 1936. His second wife preceded him in death about 10 years ago, and since then he had lived with his children.

Five children were born to the first union and all survive, Mrs. Priscilla Moser of Auburn; Austin Porter, Smoot, Mrs. Milton Smith, Georgetown; Mrs. Della Hall, Smoot, and Mrs. John Bartschi of Georgetown; also surviving are 27 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Georgetown ward chapel, and interment will be in the Montpelier cemetery. Matthews Mortuary is in charge of arrangements."
