Martin J. Ackerman passed away Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Hoyt Nursing Home. Age 87 years. The son of the late Anna (Kohn) and Martin Ackerman was born December 6, 1912 in Saginaw. He married Sophie Slancik July 8, 1933; she survives him. He was employed by Saginaw Products, retiring in 1974. Since his retirement he enjoyed carpentry and furniture building. He also enjoyed bingo and his favorite past time was reading the Bible. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Surviving besides his wife are a son, a daughter and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Beverly Ackerman, Lee Ann Talkington, both of Saginaw; four grandchildren, Robert Jr., Marty and Debbie Ackerman, Jeffrey Talkington; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Langeneker, Theresa Solak, both of Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. A great-grandson, Kevin Ackerman, two sisters, Mary Schneller, Annie Michalski and one brother, John Ackerman, have predeceased him.
Mass of Christian burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Robert DeLand will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at the W.L. Case & Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday where they will meet at 3:00 p.m. for a prayer service with Sr. Betty Zeestraten O.S.F. Friends may then call at the church from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of funeral Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may will to consider SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Hoyt Nursing Home or the Visiting Nurse Assoc.
