Beatrice Alvina Slagle, 93, of Manitowoc died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Rivers Bend Nursing Home in Manitowoc.

She was born June 30, 1912, in Arkansaw, Wis., the daughter of Fred and Ada Bien Yarrington. She attended school in Arkansaw and Porcupine.

On Sept. 26, 1929, she married Gerald Slagle in Wabasha, Minn. They farmed on Maxville Prairie, Buffalo County. In 1958, they moved to Milwaukee, where she cooked at the Seventh Day Adventist School and was janitor at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In the early 1970s, they moved to Durand, where she cooked hot lunch at the Durand School. She also cleaned Castleberg Clinic for many years.

Gerald passed away April 13, 1989. In 2000, Beatrice moved to Manitowoc to be with her daughter. She has been a resident of the Rivers Bend Nursing Home since 2003. Beatrice enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Ramona (David) Rodey of Manitowoc, Wis.; her son, Lorne (Karen) Slagle of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her foster son, John (Joanne) Hetrick of Superior, Wis.; her sister, Elizabeth Metcalf of Durand, Wis.; her sister-in-law, Norma Yarrington of Durand, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ada Bien Yarrington; her husband, Gerald Slagle; her sister, Thelma Nussberger; her brother, Albert Yarrington; her stepmother, Edith Sylvester Yarrington; and her brothers-in-law, George Metcalf and Edward “Bub” Nussberger.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand. Pastor Robert Mills will be officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Durand. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.
