U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Columbia University New York, studied law, was admitted to the bar, then moved to Pensacola, Florida and practiced law. He served as Captain in the Indian War of 1837, was a member of the Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida and appointed Florida District Attorney, in 1841. He was appointed U.S. District Attorney for Florida in 1842, was a associate justice of the Florida State Supreme Court, (1846-50), judge of the circuit court, January 1851, plus a member of the Florida State House of Representatives and Florida State Senate. In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1861. During the Civil War, he was judge of the district court under the Confederate Government, (1862-65). After the war, he was commissioned by the legislation of 1877, to prepare a digest of the State laws of Florida.
